The Biden Administration ordered an airstrike in Syria on Thursday, killing 22 people and injuring many others. It is expected for the death toll to rise due to the amount of serious injuries. The reason for the bombing according to President Biden was to, "[send] a signal to Iran and its proxies in the region that Washington would not tolerate attacks on its personnel in Iraq, even at a sensitive diplomatic moment". There were three attacks in Iraq, one targeting an American coalition base in the town of Irbil. The bombs targeted buildings where Iranian militias were known to be located. The airstrike resulted in the complete destruction of nine structures and partially destroying two. Other countries were not happy with this act however, the Syrian Government claims that this was an act of 'cowardly US aggression'. It is claimed that these attacks have broke international law and the United States will have to pay the consequence for their actions once again. Not only did the Biden Administration only notify Russia four to five minutes before the attack, the United States was also operating in Syria illegally. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is calling for better communication from the United States. Although the Pentagon claims these attacks were in legality, it is clear that the airstrike has raised tensions among the middle east and with Russia.
