China’s Covid-19 Vaccine Diplomacy Boosts Its Influence in Europe

It is no surprise that the fight against the coronavirus has had a great impact on all country's healthcare systems and economies. What is surprising though is how the European Union is turning towards China for delivering Covid-19 vaccines. Because of the current hiccups in the European Union and the United States, this present trend could increase China's influence as a reliable ally to small European countries in fighting the coronavirus. The significance of this is specifically Beijing may expect to earn clout in a region where the U.S. is normally competing for influence ultimately further strengthening China's power and thus further expanding its economical advantage over other superpowers such as Russia, India, and the United States. Although some countries are seeing this as a weakness, a far more majority of countries are hopping on the trend with China's help and everyone is currently benefiting thus far. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next year as China is promising to deliver millions of reliable vaccines to numerous countries.
