Over the past few months, Australia has worked to pass legislation that requires tech companies such as Google and Facebook to pay media companies for the number of links that used to redirect users to the media company articles.
Google and Facebook both opposed the legislation, and both threatened to leave the Australian market, eventually, Google struck a deal with Newsmax for payment of articles, and Facebook followed through with its threat and blocked all news media from being shared by Australian users, unfortunately, it led to backlash and user loss for Facebook so they finally conceded with Australia and agreed to pay local news media for content, but have not formally struck any deals/contracts.
