Perseverance rover has successfully landed on Mars and sent back it first images

In this article, Strickland writes about the details of NASA’s most recent Mars landing with the rover ‘Perseverance’. Perseverance left Earth for a six-month journey to Mars and after a nail-biting and complicated landing, Perseverance safely landed on Mars. This is the ninth rover that NASA has sent to Mars but Perseverance is special in its own right because it is the heaviest and fastest rover ever. Perseverance weighs a metric ton and only moves at .1 mile/hour but is notably 3 times faster than the previous record holder. Perseverance’s main mission is to explore an ancient dried-up ocean on Mars for signs of life but it also brought two very important pieces of equipment. The first is a tiny helicopter, this helicopter is the first-ever helicopter on Mars. The second piece of equipment is a machine that converts carbon dioxide into oxygen.

This article is packed with a lot of stuff but it’s so cool to hear about all the groundbreaking technology that NASA sent to Mars! Mars has been a huge topic of interest in recent history and technology is making leaps and bounds in pursuit of exploring Mars. It’s crazy to think that the first time a person stepped foot on the moon was over 50 years ago! I wonder if I’ll be alive when the first person sets foot on Mars, that would be absolutely insane! Space is such a fascinating topic for me. I remember I used to be afraid of space because it used to make me feel so, so small in such an uncomfortable and eerie kind of way. I’ve since grown out of that feeling and I’m so excited to learn more about space and its many mysteries. Technology today has surpassed some of humanity's wildest dreams. People's imaginations that were once just thought of as science fiction are rapidly becoming reality and I can’t wait to learn about what things we find in space next.
