Janurary 10, 2015. Boko Harem is suspected in a suicide attack that took place in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri. Police say that at least 6 people have been killed in the attack while medics in the area report that 16 people are among the casualties, marking this as the bloodiest week in the ongoing conflict thus far. This attack is just days after the violence that erupted in Borno, which left an estimated 2,000 people dead—triggered by a female suicide bomber as young as 10 years old.

The detail surrounding the attack in Borno is a curious one considering Boko Harem's kidnapping of hundreds of school girls earlier last year. Since the kidnapping, many of the children remain missing to this day. Many fear that the children are being married against their will to Boko Harem fighters or utilized as a means to intimidate the civilian population into submission [x]. I can't help but speculate that the 10 year old suicide bomber was made a tool by Boko Harem to do just that, intimidate the masses into what they hope is submission. While Aljazeera reports that no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, several reports allude to the signs suggesting that Boko Harem is, indeed, behind this attack. This comes after the group's success in capturing a key military base in Baga, Nigeria last weekend. [source]
