What Happened to the Women?

On Thursday, the ultra-Orthodox newspaper HaMevaser released their own version of the very popular picture from this past week of world leaders marching in support of France after the Charlie Hebdo terror attack. This version however was different from ones previously seen. HaMevaser digitally took out the world leaders who were women. Ultra-Orthodox Jews do not believe in taking pictures of women because they feel it is not the modest thing to do. This angered many people around the world, including Allison Kaplan Sommer from fellow Israeli newspaper, Haaretz. She stated "denying the fact that in the wider world, beyond the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community, women do stand on the world stage and shaper events."

HaMevaser's recent photo release can relate to the theories of realists verse liberalists. Realists do not change the way they views things as the world changes. Liberalists on the other hand, do change the way they view things as the world changes. In a constantly evolving world, views need to be altered when things change. Today, women are more involved in the world than ever before. Women can hold jobs, run for political office, and are capable of supporting themselves without the help of men. The influences of women have changed politics around the world. In today's world, women matter. People not longer view women as just homemakers. By no means should world leaders be removed from a photo just because they are women. We are not in the 19th century anymore. Women deserve respect.
