Putin and the Panama Papers: Why power means more than money

The release of the Panama Papers implicated many leaders in having offshore accounts filled with cash. Currently, the Prime Minister of Iceland has resigned due to the multitude of accusations facing him. Not to the surprise of many, Putin may have possible connections to the offshore accounts. However, none of the accounts are actually in his name - his colleagues are the holders. This then begs the question - how much power does Putin hold over his closest friends? Additionally, it makes one wonder about the level of influence he has in totality. He must be offering friends such immense benefits that they feel compelled to help him, even with scandalous activities. This may mean that Putin will not be indicted with any form of wrongdoing, so it will be interesting to see how the Panama Papers and Putin play out.
