Hollis Esposito - "'All It Takes Is One Mistake': Worries Over Plan to Send National Guard to Border"

Summary:

This article was written by Helene Cooper and explains how people are concerned with having the National Guard sent over the border to Mexico. People are against this because sending the troops to the border would put them behind on their training for their end goal which is combat. However, Trump wants to put the troops on the southern border because he feels that the immigration authorities do not have enough manpower to secure the border from drugs, crimes, and immigrants. The homeland security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, said that her department and the Defense Department would put into action the deployment of the National Guard to help border control. Some people are against this because we have oceans on two of our borders, and then allies in the north and the south. They do not want to pose a threat to Mexico in anyway because that could compromise their alli agreements. Also, if we put troops on our borders, Mexico will too. The concern is, what if someone accidentally fires, then what will happen?
