'Ban It': Bipartisan lawmakers call on Biden Administration to end Russian oil imports
As president Validmir Putin continues to escalate Russian attacks in Ukraine, bipartisan lawmakers are putting the pressure on President Biden to put economic stress on Russia and punish them for their actions. Russia relies heavily on its energy sector for income, and taking away US oil exports would be the an influential way for the US to stand against the war. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi emphatically supports the idea, and urges the ban on Russian oil imports. There is domestic concern of already-rising gas prices that would drastically increase due to this decision. What is now left is to decide the next steps that would come after a ban. Many politicians see this as an opportunity to begin to build America into an "energy-independent" future once and for all, although it will come with a costly transition. The next step in this decision is to decided if the ban will happen for all Russian imports, and how it influences a relationship with Europe in its entirety.
