Gas prices grew to record highs after Russia invaded Ukraine. High gas prices threaten to worsen inflation and slow down the economic recovery. The White House apparently considered sending out gas cards to soften the blow, however they have decided that it is not reasonable. They are worried that it will not work because of fraud concerns as well as the fact that, in the past, things have been stolen from mailboxes. The President wants to do everything possible to mitigate the impact. He has already announced the release of oil from emergency stockpiles.
