Russia’s war on Ukraine threatens global food supply
Russian tanks and missiles are also jeopardizing the food supply and lives of people in Europe, Africa, and Asia who depend on the huge, lush farmlands of the Black Sea area, known as the "breadbasket of the world." Because of the influx of refugees, fighters, and people trying to survive in Ukraine, farmers have been forced to neglect their fields. Ports that ship wheat and other agricultural essentials throughout the globe to be processed into products such as bread, noodles, and animal feed have been closed. Furthermore, there are concerns that Western sanctions on Russia, another agricultural giant, might cause its grain shipments to be disrupted.
