North Korea has been working on advancing their nuclear technology for a while now. Between them and China, the nuclear threat has been becoming more and more of a reality in the US. China is said to have a submarine that can carry a ballistic missile that can travel 11,000 kilometers. At that distance, they can hit the mainland from Chinese shores. North Korea is said to have similar technology and is still continuing to advance in nuclear weaponry. North Korea is advancing towards mobile nuclear missile launchers and miniaturized nuclear weapons. Gen Curtis Scaparrotti, a commander of US forces in Korea, said during a briefing at the Pentagon that the threat is becoming real and we cannot afford the luxury of thinking North Korea and China are not as far along in nuclear technology as they are saying.
This article is showing that the US is becoming less and less of a hegemonic state because other states are catching up and will soon be able to challenge the US. Sure, maybe the next war will be a cyber war, but that does not reduce the capabilities of nuclear weapons and the potential catastrophe of a nuclear war. The world we live in is about to become a multipolar world because of this rise in power of other countries. We have to keep in mind that not only are these states gaining in power, but their gain is a result of another states loss in power. The US will not have many years left of being the worlds leading power unless they can take some of the power from our top competitors. On the other hand, the US cannot afford to be making enemies out of China or India by posing a threat in their region. I think the point is coming where the US will have to back down to a new global leader or the world will have multiple leading powers.

North Korea's had the ability to deliver a nuclear weapon to the United States ever since it first created one. Two words: cargo ship.
Nuclear weapons have to be miniaturized to fit onto missile warheads, but even a big, crude bomb has no problem fitting into a cargo container.
Consider North Korea's military putting a bomb in one of these containers and putting them on one of those box freighters that carries thousands of them.
No cargo port in the world inspects every single box on every single ship that comes through.
North Korea's ship goes to Shanghai, Hong Kong, or another busy Chinese port. They offload their boxes onto another ship under another nation's flag, with an American port on its itinerary.
They can literally have a bomb delivered into a US city.
I think our government knows this.
I think that's why we handle them so cautiously even though they still can't fit one of their nuclear weapons onto a ballistic missile and their missiles cannot reach the US yet.
