On Saturday, September 29, 3,000 people gathered in downtown Barcelona to protest another march in support of Spanish police. This led to a physical dispute when separatists arrived downtown Barcelona and started throwing paint and projectiles at police officers, covering downtown Barcelona with bright colors. Officers responded with baton attacks to keep them back, and as a result 14 people were left injured and six were arrested. According to the WashintonPost, the reason of the separatists attack has to do with the anniversary of the 2017 Catalan independence referendum, but clashed with another group demanding for a better pay. Officers used batons to keep the opposing groups apart, but it ended in a clashing attack instead. Barcelona's mayor Ada Colau asked for peace and to "avoid confrontation" at all costs between separatists and people protesting in support of the Spanish police. In conclusion, the Catalan police told The Associated Press that the six arrests were made on charges of aggression against police officers, but investigations of the whole event will be continued.
