The president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Chanel, addressed the UN General Assembly on Wednesday proclaiming the the 'inequality and  poverty seen around the world is not caused by socialism, but capitalism, imperialism and neoliberalism.' The author of the article believes this is a response to President Trump's speech who spoke the day before concerning socialism and what stance the US should take against Cuba.  In addition, Diaz-Chanel voiced his dissatisfaction towards the US for fabricating false scenarios of tension with Cuba as well as withdrawing from the nuclear deal with Iran.
I thought this was an article which paralleled many aspects we have discussed during class concerning international relation theories. Fukuyama in particular, took an interesting stance in claiming at one point on the future, all societies will be capitalist and a representative democracy. However, at this point of history, differing social and economic systems are common. This begs the questions, is one system truly superior than the other? Are the superior systems truly capitalism and a representative democry?  It will be interesting to see what the future holds in terms of economic and societal system changes.
