Residents of Tlaquepaque, Mexico noticed a smell, but were not able to discover the source for two weeks. The source was discovered by local officials doing a routine inspection of the building. What they discovered was a refrigerated truck with 150 unclaimed dead bodies inside the trailer. The state officials knew of this truck because they had placed it there. The truck was moved to another neighborhood and once again asked to be moved. The mayor of Tlaquepaque asked for it to be moved and dealt with in order to respect both the dead and the neighborhood. The truck is now located near the office of the State Attorney General Roberto Lopez Lara who is investigating the case now.
The state of Jalisco where Tlaquepaque is located had 1,369 homicides in 2017, and Mexico as a whole has 31,174 in that same year. This is a 27% increase from 2016, and the highest recorded in homicides yet in Mexico. The new president, President Obrador is hoping to pursue a peace plan with the United Nations to solve this problem.
