Maldives Opposition Declares Victory

Today many people in the Maldives are claiming victory despite it not being official as the vote for the new president of the Malives. The current president was hoping for a second term, but the opposition is claiming that it would threaten the growing democracy in the Maldives. The current president was believed to be paying his employees to vote for him and the police found evidence of cheating ballots. As the election in the Maldives  continues there may be big changes going to happen in the Maldives. As they strive to work towards democracy, they are taking into consideration whether or not to take aid from China. The issue is that many oppose aid from China because doing so will ensure that China can use them as a Naval base. As of now the majority vote is for the current president's rival. How this pans out will surely lead to big changes for the Maldives.
