The article I read was by James Griffiths of CNN. With all
the news about Hurricane Florence hitting the Carolinas this week I was surprised
to read the details of this storm. Super Typhoon Mangkhut is going through the
pacific and has already made landfall and is now hitting other small islands
out in the pacific. What surprised me is
that this typhoon is much larger and stronger than the hurricane that is
hitting the United States. Super Typhoon Mangkhut had sustained winds of 165 mph
with gusts as high as 200 mph. This would be the equivalent of a category 5
hurricane. Hurricane Florence was never this strong. There are over 10 million people in the Philippines
alone affected by the storm. The damage to rice and corn crops could be over
$116 million.
