Protester for Russian opposition arrested immediately after release from prison - Kel Goff

Alexei Navalny is a Russian political activist and avid critic of President Vladimir Putin. On September 24, he was released from prison after serving a thirty-day sentence for "staging an unsanctioned protest" in Moscow last month (Associated Press). However, the outspoken opponent to the current Russian government was not able to enjoy freedom for long. Immediately after being released, Navalny was once more arrested for staging a rally that "caused bodily harm to unidentified people" according to his spokesperson (Associated Press). This is one of many events taking place in Russia that is contributing to an overall sense of civil unrest. Alongside the retirement age being raised, much to the anger of many Russians, President Putin is facing a decline in his approval ratings. In addition, recent elections in two regions of the nation resulted in reports of votes being rigged in favor of Kremlin candidates. With Navalny as a steady leader of riots as well as a devoted group of proponents of his ideals, his most recent arrest will only result in further opposition of the Russian people towards President Putin.
