5, Lawmakers, Inspired by 'Pandora Papers,' to Push New Anti-Corruption Bill (Sydney Dryier)

What surprised me the most about the pandora papers wasn’t the actual contents of the leak, but instead the reaction of the general public and the fact that a lot of people had no idea that the wealthy elite offshore their assets and pay nothing in taxes. This feels like such common knowledge to myself and my circle of peers, there’s proof for it everywhere online and there are even people in congress fighting to stop it. So, naturally when the papers came out my first thought was “so what?” but no! So many people were blown away by this revelation and it really goes to show that older generations really take whatever they’re told at face value. They really believe it when billionaires say they are doing everything perfectly legally and pay it forward and all that, there are really just people, a majority of the population in fact, who will 100% believe what they are being told.

The general public wants to see rich people as these hard workers that earned all their money and of course the elite love this because they can justify poverty wages and tax evasion with such rhetoric. Any law that will be passed is not due to any shock or justice. Pretty much every major government has wealthy elites offshoring the money and in a lot of cases, the same wealthy elite evading taxes are the same ones running the government or lobbying politicians to otherwise gain control. Any law passed will not help because the wealthy elite are the international government, they are the ones breaking the law and the ones rigging the system because the system was made to benefit them and them alone. The pandora papers are not a one time thing, they are simply properly documented proof of the rigged system and how deep the cracks go.
