Saudi Arabia says it is 'pointless' to deal with Hezbollah-dominated Lebanon Lars Viise

Saudi says 'pointless' dealing with Hezbollah-dominated Lebanon (msn.com)

This is yet another step in the new cold war in the Middle East, which we have seen erupt in Yemen and Syria. Saudi Arabia, being the leader of the Sunni faction, is of course hostile towards Shia Hezbollah, especially since Kordahi, a Maronite Christian who is the Minister of Information of Lebanon, criticized Saudi actions in Yemen. Lebanon has a very long history of Sectarian violence, especially during the civil war in the 80s and 90s between Maronites, Sunnis and Shias, which had foreign support from Israel, Saudi Arabia and Iran respectively. The war ended with a peace treaty which shared power equally between all 3 groups, but recently Hezbollah has been gaining more and more influence in Lebanese politics, especially due to them allying with the Maronites (which makes Kordahi being Christian make sense), and thus this has pushed them further into Iran's sphere. This means the recent hostility between them and Saudi Arabia makes sense.
