Los Angles joins New York City as the newest city in America to require proof of vaccination to enter indoor facilities. This means restaurants, gyms, movie theaters, comedy clubs, shopping malls, hair salons, and anything else indoors. The Mayor of L.A. Eric Garcetti said in a statement that "this new ordinance will help e courage people to get the shot who haven't already and made things safer for workers and customers"
The ordinance states it will not go into effect until November 4, but because the law did not pass with enough votes to classify as "urgent" it will likely take another month on top of that early November date to be in effect.
The city of L.A. does have a few different forms of exemption for getting the vaccine, for religious and or medical reasons. But businesses are required to have those individuals use outdoor areas and or produce a negative covid test to enter the indoor section if no outdoor space is offered or available. For businesses that do not follow the new mandate, they will be given one warning then fined $1000 upon seconds offense, and up to $5000 for each instance after. Fines will not be enforced until November 29th.
