Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan from the U.S.

Over a month after U.S. troops withdrew from Afghanistan, the Taliban and the U.S. had their first direct talks with each other in Doha, Qatar, regarding the state of the country. While both governments disclosed separate statements about these talks, the general conclusion is that the United States will provide humanitarian aid directly to the people of Afghanistan. However, they also specify that this gesture does not mean the US approves of the Taliban as the governing power for the country. Instead, the U.S. clarifies that they will judge the Taliban based on both their words and actions following these discussions. Other topics discussed during this meeting include the Taliban containing IS as IS continue their terrorist attacks in Afghanistan and the U.S. wanting Americans and others to be allowed to leave Afghanistan. It will be interesting to see how dynamics between the U.S. government and the Taliban develop and change as Afghanistan tries to recover from all the events that have happened since August.
