She is Breaking Glass Ceilings in Space, but Facing Sexism on Earth

Col. Wang Yaping is making her second trip into orbit and will be the first Chinese woman to set foot in space. Although this is a big accomplishment, she is facing criticism for leaving her five year old daughter behind for the six month trip. The media also had to question the physiology of men versus women and menstrual cycles, which caused Pang Zhihao, a China National Space Administration official, to speak on the supplies that she would have in space. The author notes in the article that it isn't often a woman outside the entertainment industry reaches this public prominence like Col. Wang. Unfortunately what comes with this is attention on her gender, and condescending questions. Nevertheless, Col. Wang didn't lose dedication to the space trip despite the criticism.
