The U.S. held a meeting with 30 countries this week regarding cybersecurity strategy. Out of those 30 countries however, Russia was not one of them. Jake Sullivan, the White House national security adviser, described the meeting as 'a gathering of “like-minded” governments in agreement on the urgency of the need to protect citizens and businesses from ransomware'. The exclusion of Russia further illustrates the sour relations between it and the U.S. Though there has been direct communication with Russia regarding cybersecurity as the U.S. government links Russian cybercriminals to the increase of ransomware attacks received by the U.S. These cyberattacks further tighten the tension between the U.S. and Russia and explain the exclusion of Russia from the U.S.-led cybersecurity meeting.
