Hezbollah shoots down Israeli drone in South Lebanon Lars Viise

On Thursday, September 30th, Lebanese Hezbollah insurgents claimed to have shot down an IDF drone over the village of Yater, a town in the Maryamin Valley in southern Lebanon. The Israeli army has admitted that one of its drones fell inside Lebanon, and states the military is investigating the incident.

This incident demonstrates a lot of Israel's somewhat aggressive foreign policy towards Lebanon. Israel has been trying to expand their sphere of influence over Lebanon in order to secure their northern border and stop the country from being used as a base for the PLO. This led to them supporting Lebanese Phalanges (a Far Right Christian Nationalist party) during the civil war in the 70s and 80s. Then, in 2006, Israel invaded Southern Lebanon under the pretext of destroying Hezbollah bases in the country which were used for cross border raids, which ended up displacing over 1.5 million people and killing over 1,000. And during the Syrian Civil War, Israel has been using Lebanese airspace to attack targets in Syria, so this issue goes a lot further than just one downed drone.
