This weekend, the G20 Summit is taking place in Rome. President Biden is in attendance, receiving communion and speaking with the Pope, regardless of possible resistance from conservative bishops. Most importantly, leaders at the G20 Summit talked extensively about climate change, reaching an agreement to end coal financing by the end of the year. This commitment is a huge step, yet there was no talk of stopping coal usage altogether. In a speech today, President Biden wasn't shy about critiquing China and Russia's poor effort in stopping climate change, saying they "basically didn't show up" and calling their behavior disappointing. It is clear that this weekend brought forth some small, yet important changes, and it reiterated the point that all nations need to be proactive in order to reverse the growing damage and threats born from climate change. It will be interesting to see if such powerful nations like Russia and China will get on board.
