US Submarine collides with an unknown object

A US submarine hit an unknown object in the south china sea. And although 11 sailors were injured the submarine's nuclear propulsion plant was unharmed. But 2 out of the 11 had a “moderate condition” and were treated aboard the ship. According to Alexander Neill the submarine must have “hit something big” and must have “been going really” fast in order for those injuries to happen. It is also important to note that all of the sailors who were injured were treated on the submarine. Not surprisingly china was concerned about the incident and asked for the US to provide more details. Events like these are relatively rare for the United States as the last similar event to this happened in 2005 when the USS San Francisco hit an underwater mountain near Gaum. But the question still remains why was the United States in that region to begin with. The area has many trade routes passing through the region and many countries claim to have authority over various parts of the region leading to conflict. The United States has backed some of these states claiming to have control over parts of the region which increased tensions with china. This can be clearly seen by China releasing record numbers of aircraft into Taiwan's airspace for 4 days in a row. This also follows very closely with the security pact in the Asia-pacific which is a pact by the UK, US and Australia to counter China’s increasing influence in that region.
