Trump boasted of crowd size at Jan. 6 riot, new book says (msn.com)
If this is true, it could have serious repercussions on the American presidential system. For most of history, American presidents have been trusting of the election results and willingly gave up power to the next candidate, which is fairly unique in the geopolitical stage (since many times countries fall into dictatorships). If this story is true then we have possibly the first president to openly go against the will of the people, especially since his allegations of voter fraud have been disproven time and time again. The January 6 riot was one of the largest political disturbances the US has seen in a while, and it almost was much worse. If the rioters had got their hands on the ballots and destroyed them, then Trump, with his support of the rioters, could have possibly kept the presidential office. And if that happened then what was keeping America together? Without the values of American Democracy, we would have fallen apart. We are so ethnically and politically diverse that the country could have fallen into yet another costly civil war. So this news story, if true, kind of shows how the American values of freedom and democracy ain't set in stone.
