At least 45 killed as dam bursts on farm in Kenya

Weeks of heavy rainfall and flooding caused a dam to burst in Kenya, killing at least 45 people late last week. The Kenyan Red Cross estimates that nearly 500 families have been affected by the natural disaster. The dam that burst was located on a commercial farm, causing many workers and small scale farmers to lose their homes. This is especially tragic because the disaster occurred on a commercial farm that employs the majority of the village's residents who work in either the horticulture, coffee, or tea industry. The good news is that the Kenyan Red Cross is working hard to collect food, materials, shelter, and first aid services for those affected.
