Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned Trump that the US will face "historic regret" if he decided to scrap the nuclear agreement. The US has until May 12th to decide whether or not to pull out of the deal. In the past Trump has referred to the deal as "insane."
The deal was struck in 2015 between Iran, the US, China, Russia, Germany, France and the UK. It lifted sanctions on Iran in return for curbs on its nuclear program. Basically, Iran promised not to make a bomb if it had its sanctions lifted. Some critics agreed the program was good because it would prevent Iran from making bombs. Lets face it, the world would be letter if we had less bombs in existence.
France and the UK have been trying to convince the US to keep the deal alive because they also believe Iran shouldn't develop bombs. The UN is also behind France and the UK. Trump stated that he would stay if Congress and European powers fixed its "disastrous flaws." Iran countered that statement by saying its program is peaceful and the deal is non-renegotiable.
I personally believe withdrawing from the deal is preposterous. If the deal prevents Iran from developing nuclear bombs then why withdraw from it? Trump's "America First" policy is having some pretty serious consequences.
