"Ireland votes to overturn its abortion ban, ‘culmination of a quiet revolution,’ prime minister says" By Andrew Honig

The article I read from the Washington Post was the most shocking article I have read in a long time. Ireland has voted to repeal the abortion act that previously made it illegal for a woman to get an abortion. It is stated in the article that Ireland has secretly been "socially liberal" for about 10-20 years or so. An overwhelming 75 percent agreed to repeal the amendment to grant women the basic rights they deserve. Ireland has been under catholic rule for so long and the hypocrisy is being noticed more and more as time goes on. The sexual assaults, and the corruption in churches has been noticed and now it is being brought to justice. All but one state in Ireland voted against the repeal and it is a extremely conservative catholic area that no one associates themselves with. This article made me so happy to finally show people that their outdated books and religion does not comply with the world we live with today. The activist that are fighting against this change say that this is saddening to them but in fact to the majority it is freedom. Over 3000 women have to leave a year to get an abortion in the UK because it was illegal in Ireland to get one until now. Now women who face rape and incest will finally be able to get the treatment they need. In mist recent years gay marriage was legalized and that was the start of equal rights for all and this repeal will create ways like no one can imagine. The catholic church will finally see what it fears the most, which is the loss of followers due to years of abuse and indoctrination.
