Iranian president claims US leaving nuclear deal would "entail historic regret"

By Raymond Dragunaitis

Donald Trump ignored warnings from both the United Nations and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani not to walk away from the nuclear agreement with Iran, to which the latter remarked "If America leaves the nuclear deal, this will entail historic regret for it." Trump has threatened to withdraw from the deal on May 12 unless Congress and European powers fix its "disastrous flaws", including only acting for a fixed period, not stopping ballistic missile development, and giving Iran $100 billion he claims Iran used "as a slush fund for weapons, terror, and oppression." Last week, Israel released "secret nuclear files" which it claimed showed Iran ran a secret nuclear weapons program before 2003 and violated the agreement by secretly retaining the required technical knowledge. Iran called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a liar and insists its nuclear program is entirely peaceful. However, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stood by the documents' authenticity.
