Gaza Clashes

This article is about tensions between Palestinians and Israelis. The article states that 52 Palestinians have been killed on the deadliest day since the 2014 Gaza War. This comes as there has been six weeks of protests at the Gaza border that has been dubbed the Great March of Return, that has been led by Gaza’s Islamist rulers Hamas. Today, the Israeli military said 40,000 Palestinians had taken part in violent riots at 13 locations along the Gaza Strip security fence. Palestinians reportedly were hurling stones and incendiary devices that caused a response of the Israeli military using snipers. Many Western nations including the United Kingdom and Germany and also the United Nations have called for restraint. This comes as the United States is set to open its Israeli embassy in Jerusalem. This move by the United States was praised by Israeli leader Netanyahu, while Arab League Chief Ahmed Abul Gheit stated it was shameful to see countries participating with the US and Israel in celebrating the former’s embassy move to occupied Jerusalem in a clear and grave violation of international law. As tensions between Palestinians and Israelis seem to be at a high since 2014, it will be interesting to see how much of this, if any has been caused by the United States embassy move.
