Scores dead in Gaza fence protest as U.S. moves embassy to Jerusalem
At least 52 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces and 1,960 others were wounded as the U.S. Embassy opened in Jerusalem. This happened between the Gaza Strip and Israel, the fence, and the explosive devices, firebombs, and rocks were being thrown to the fence by protesters. This protest started March 30. The U.S. embassy moved to Jerusalem, where the Palestinians consider it their capital from Tel Aviv broke decades of Washington policy and distances the US from its allies. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey said, "With this latest step, the US has chosen to be part of the problem and not the solution and has ceased to be and has lost its role as mediator in the Middle East peace process." However, organizers and rank-and-file activists hope the movement will remain peaceful beyond this week.
