Indonesia Church Bombings

On Sunday, Indonesia experienced a terrorist attack where suicide bombings occurred in 3 churches. It is suspected that these bombers were Islamic and part of the JAD terrorist group. This is suspected because the attack happened just days after a prison hostage standoff. Over time the majority Muslim city, Surabaya, has increased in Islamic supporters due to the JAD group. The attack occurred at three Christian churches, however there are many other growing religions in Indonesia that also have traditional practices. Indonesia has a history of violence and attacks at churches (Christmas 2000). This attack was done through the use of a motor bike, car, and two veiled women. It has been reported that a minimal of 11 people have been killed and 40 harmed due to the attack. Police acted immediately to the attacks and calmed the people in the area. They also discovered an unexploded device that could have created more damage to the city. Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Masudi, claims they will not stand up to terrorist attacks, however he has not yet discussed what his plan of action is.
