Matthew Wagner- China Protests U.S. Warships in Disputed Waters

      This article from the Washington Post reports that the Chinese government has condemned US Navy action in the South China Sea.  The incident that sparked this response is when the US sailed a guided missile destroyer and a guided missile cruiser past a Chinese held island in the South China Sea. This mission coincides with the US’s mission to maintain the integrity of the free waters of the South China Sea which directly opposes Chinese claims in the region.  China claims it supports freedom in the South China Sea but does not want its sovereign territory disputed. China was also recently able to land a heavy bomber on one of their islands in the South China Sea which furthers their strike capability in the region.
