District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald in New York ruled
that Trump violates the First Amendment when he blocks his critics on
Twitter. The judge's ruling did not outright state that President Trump had to unblock those users, but it does state that people have a right to reply directly to politicians’
accounts when they are being used as public forums to conduct official
business. In support of this, a case in Maryland settled which lead to Republican Gov. Larry Hogan agreeing to
adopt a new social media policy that would not discriminate against
commenters’ viewpoints after he blocked several critics, which helps to extend the rights of the First Amendment to the internet as well, at least in times where it a social platform.
