Erdogan shuns West with Syria strikes and more mass detentions

This article talks about relations in the Middle East, specifically Syria, and the recent decision by the country of Turkey to impose airstrikes on Syria, much to the the dismay of officials in the U.S. The U.S. has been fighting ISIS in that area and this move by Turkish officials is seen as harming their ability to complete their goal of defeating ISIS. Turkey is attempting to defeat ISIS as well, but they did not coordinate with U.S. leaders and many deem this as bad and naive move. Turkey has kind of always been seen as an outlier amongst other countries in that area as they are still not a part of the European Union, even though there have been calls for them to join for almost 50 years now. it is also interesting to see how aggressive they have been in terms of involvement overall in the Middle East as they have allowed the largest amount of refugees into their own country out of anyone else in the world.
