This
article is about how Lebanon has recently held primary elections for the first
time in almost a decade. The last election within Lebanon was held in 2009 and
elections are supposed to be held every four years, but due to instability
within the region including the problems going on in neighboring Syria the parliament
extended its term twice. A few changes in the voting system have taken place
since the last elections including Lebanon reducing the number of districts,
and allowing expatriate voting for the first time. This election within Lebanon
could have interest to the United States, because of the countries presence of
Hezbollah. Hezbollah is a armed group within Lebanon that is considered a
terrorist organization by the United States. During this election Hezbollah is
seeking to increase its parliamentary representation, which the United States
hopes does not happen. The new parliament within Lebanon is going to face many
issues including a large amount of refugees who have entered the country from
Syria.
