Is There a Method in Donald Trump’s Madness?

This article discusses the accumulation of President Donald Trump’s seemingly immature actions and altercations since his presidency has begun. Jack Shafer, the author of this article, reminded the reader of things like Trump’s firing of Comey, and his threats to the jobs (or lives…) of many other government officials. What makes this article a ‘current’ issue, however, is the fact that it brought up Trump’s most recent altercation, which is that of him threatening a Montana Democrat’s ability to be re-elected  by releasing sensitive material surrounding him. The ultimate goal of this article was the propose the idea that maybe Trump’s biggest concern isn’t to actually be a complete jerk, rather to gain a mental advantage over his opponents. The reality is, powerful leaders are almost always powerful because they used strategic methods to gain their power. Trump realizes this. Unfortunately, he feels that the best way to be the most powerful is to threaten others until they bow down to you and feel completely blackmailed into doing whatever you’d like. Not that this method is respectable, but it does seem to work in his favor in many cases. Whether it is him being a jerk or him being aggressive, his aggressive approach with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un seems to be working so far. We will have to wait and see, though.
