Timea Mozsi
This article is about famine
in South Sudan. The article describes several families’ situations to put a
face to the problem. The issue is horrific and something that most of us can
not even begin to fathom. People living in counties such as Ayod, are
experiencing extreme scarcities of food and important resources such as health
care. Many people try to survive on old fruits and vegetables and others try to
gather what they can find growing on trees. The issue appears to be influenced
greatly by the civil war in the country.
There are organizations
that are meant to help, but if for whatever reason people miss registrations or
are not eligible, they don’t receive the assistance. The article mentions the United
Nations Food and Agricultural Organization and the World Food Program, just to
name a few. Some people go days without any food and many are afraid of
starving to death. The only thing I can think of, is why is this still happening?
And how could it be so if 40% of food produced in the United States is thrown
away? It seems to me that there are extremely intelligent people in the world,
we need to think of something to make
this stop.
