A North Korean-Themed Pub Opened in Seoul, South Korea, Sparking Interest as well as Protests

A North Korean-themed pub opened in Seoul, South Korean, sparking interest as well as protests. The pub, called Pyongyang Pub, opened in the busiest district of Seoul, South Korea, and provides patrons with beer containing fake North Korean labels and North Korean dishes, such as tofu-wrapped rice, which is a traditional junk food in North Korea. Furthermore, the pub is decorated in a traditional North Korean style: mint and pink walls with North Korean parodied propaganda posters. Pyongyang Pub also contains actual products from North Korea, and allows customers to dress up in traditional Korean clothing and take pictures in it. The owner, who wanted to be called Kim said, "I expect people will be curious over this place that many want to visit." Originally, when the pub was under construction, portraits of North Korean leaders dotted the bar, but they have since been taken down after backlash and replaced with a portrait of President Donald Trump and of a local comedian. Protests did occur when the pub opened and it surprised the owner.
