As concerns about climate change are rising, Downtown Chicago has had an increase in demand for apartment buildings with Green Roofs. "The green space was a huge factor in choosing this apartment, Mr. Michaels said. My wife and I are out there every other night, grilling or relaxing. And we like that they host classes out there". Since 2013 there has been a 15% increase in the number of Green Roofs in America. Replacing black asphalt and shingles with plants can lower the surrounding air temperature and filter dirty stormwater that the building's residence can use. The National Research Council of Canada estimates that Green Roofs can air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions as much as 75%.
