"Only God is with us" Syrians Feel Betrayed by the US

There was a feeling of hope from the northern Syrians when Turkey threatened to invade because of the American troops presence in the area. However, with Trumps order to move U.S. forces out of the area transformed one of the safest regions of Syria into a war zone. This leaving residents and the Kurds with a sense of betrayal.

An estimated 160,000 Syrians have fled the area due to Turkey’s offense. One of these Syrians is Hanna. Her and her husband were smuggled into Iran for $200.

“I left my home, and I just started a new home” Hanna said. “There are no emotions anymore. We live as if we are dead... For a full year the Turks threatened us I kept saying we should escape, because with the Turks there is no security. But my husband always said there are Americans, Britain, France, and they won’t abandon us.”

The Trump administration defended their decision by stating they were opposed to the invasion but are too powerless to stop it.
Northern Syrians are now stating no foreign nation is with them, “only God is with us.”
