Poland's ruling conservative party poised to win re-election- Tom Pancione

Tom Pancione

Polish elections happened today October 13 2019. the ruling party PiS(translated to "Law and Justice") is set to get an absolute majority in the lower house of their parliament called the Sejm. With an expected 239 out of 460 enough for an absolute majority. Currently they have 218 seats in parliament and are in a coalition with smaller right wing parties and one independent giving them 241 out of 260. I should mention they are also in a confidence and supply agreement with another smaller right wing party. If the exit polls are accurate they should get a majority with no coalition needed. Though results aren't expected to be official until Tuesday when all the international votes are counted. Even so Opposition parties were looking to deny PiS a majority by banding together in the case PSI failed to get a majority. However according to the exit polls a far-right party called confederation is expected to get make it into parliament surpassing the 5% threshold with 6%, if this is accurate and for some reasons PiS doesn't have a majority in parliament, it is more likely that Confederation would either do a confidence and supply with PiS or form a government with PiS, given that the opposition parties are a mix of center-right-to left wing parties that are all pro-EU. Confederation is anti-EU, and if they were the kingmaker I do not picture them working with left wing parties. Again the finally results are not expected until Tuesday, and the exit poll could be 2% off, but still assuming that, say PiS is 2% less than expected, they are still by far the largest party, and probably could rely on support from Confederation, or say Confederation actually doesn't meet the threshold. Then it still doesn't matter cause PiS would still have a majority.
