           This Saturday, thirty ancient wood coffins were discovered in Luxor (a city in southern Egypt). The discovery was the country’s largest finding in over a century. The past discoveries in 1881 and 1891 were lead by foreigners, but this event was the first one by Egyptians. The coffins found were over 3,000 years old and were “exceptionally well-preserved” with traces of color surrounding the artifacts. Men, women, and children’s remains were found mummified. Through centuries of research, the gender of each mummy was identified through the placement of their hands on the coffin. The discovery of children mummies is a rare occurrence, which lead the coffins to create a worldwide interest.  

            The discovery is relevant to the rest of the world because a new piece of history has been discovered. Important details on ancient Egyptian burial rights were shown as every person, regardless of age or gender, were buried in the coffins. Egyptologists around the world have access to more information on the belief in the afterlife. Many of the coffins found will be moved to a museum by the Giza pyramids for any visitor to see.
