The Turkish Operation ''Peace Spring'' launched in Northern Syria

Turkey launched Operation ''Peace Spring'' in Syria, Turkish President Recep Erdogan announced this.

The purpose of the operation, according to Erdogan, is the fight against the terrorist "Islamic State" and Kurdish forces in the southern border of Turkey. The operation will provide a security zone on the border with Syria, which will allow Syrian refugees to return home.

However, US President Donald Trump condemned Turkey for this operation, which began on the afternoon of October 9.

In an official statement circulated by the White House press service, Trump emphasized that the US "did not approve of this attack and made it clear to Turkey that this operation is a bad idea."

Trump also stressed that Washington intends to “ensure that Turkey adheres to its obligations” to prevent a humanitarian crisis in the region.

It is important to mention that Kurdish formations, which are the main target of the Turkish army’s attack, enjoy US support. Trump shortly before the start of the operation promised that Washington would not stop providing military assistance to the Kurds. Also, Turkey is a member of NATO. Recently, Ankara has had difficult relations with Washington in the military sphere, in particular due to the purchase of S-400 systems from Russia.

The European Union and some Arab countries also criticized Turkey’s operation.
