Amid mounting drug war deaths, Mexico's President sticks to his strategy

Recently Mexico saw a spike in deaths related to its' ongoing drug war as authorities made attempts to arrest some high-ranking cartel members. These attempts at arrests saw gun battles breaking out all over the state of Michoacan. The current president Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been working to tackle these issues in a new way by rooting out underlying issues of economic imbalance, and despite recent evidence claims that his plan will still work. Critics are arguing that, while it is nice that the government is taking a new approach, it is hard to maintain hope when the death toll rises every day.
