Iraq protests: UN calls for end to 'senseless loss of life'

Griffin Curran
As protests continue to escalate in Iraq the UN has called for an end to all the loss of life. The protests began recently as citizens of the country called for reform in the government and an end to corruption. While the government initially responded with sanctions to block the protestors these ultimately proved unsuccessful. The situation quickly escalated as the Prime Minister sanctioned private security forces to confront the protestors with lethal ammunition. This has led to the death of almost 100 individuals and over 4,000 injuries. Since the fall of IS in recent years, this is the most unstable the region has been. This situation appears to be a much darker alternative to what has been happening in Hong Kong recently.
