Syria's Kurds look to Assad for Protection

Due to Turkey’s invasions in Syria, President Trump has ordered U.S. troops to withdraw their activities in Norther Syria. This allowing for an attack by Turkey to attack the Kurds in this area who they see as terrorists. This action done by President Trump is viewed as a betrayal of an ally, since the Kurds have been fighting along the US to defeat ISIS. The Kurds were not left with many options when the US troops abandoned them, so they turned to Assad’s government for support. The government vowed to help defeat the invasion.

With the U.S. troops gone, Kurdish-run prison’s holding thousands of Islamic State prisoners are crumbling. A Kurdish lead administration claimed that 785 Islamic State supported escaped the prisons.

The US urged the leader of Turkey, Erdogan, to not invade Syria, due to the escalation of the nation's situation. However, Erdogan claims he will not negotiate with “terrorists”. On Sunday, October 13th, Turkish airstrikes in Northern Syria killed at least 9 people. 5 were civilians. Turkey claimed that 440 Kurdish fighters have died since their operation that started on Wednesday.
